Partnership in OLED Simulation and Modeling announced by Simbeyond and State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD), South China University of Technology

The State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD) at South China University of Technology (SCUT) and the Dutch simulation software company Simbeyond are proud to announce a partnership in OLED simulation and modeling. In this partnership, SKLLMD is establishing a platform for theoretical calculation and simulation. Simbeyond is leveraging the capabilities of the SKLLMD and establishes a lab and location at the SKLLMD. The partnership is intended to embed the use of Bumblebee software in both academic and industrial applications in China. With Bumblebee software, both academic and industrial R&D teams can replace a large part of their costly and time-consuming experimental efforts with computer simulations. This way they achieve significant cost savings and time-to-market reductions in the R&D process to uncover new OLED materials and stacks, with improved performance. Performance improvements include improved efficiency, color point stability and light output. The unique approach allows Bumblebee users to analyze, predict and improve device performance. This partnership shall set a solid foundation in China to boost OLED research and industrialization for next few decades.

“With the partnership with the world-class OLED modeling and simulation provider Simbeyond, the SKLLMD establishes a corner stone in its effort to build a platform for theoretical calculation and simulation – this would enable us to explore new territories of research.”

Prof. Dr. Shi-Jian Su, head of the SKLLMD, SCUT

“Simbeyond is proud of this partnership with the SKLLMD at SCUT, China’s most renowned lab and university in the field of OLED. This strengthens the presence of Simbeyond in the Chinese market and enables Simbeyond to demonstrate its software to clients in China at its location in SCUT.”

Dr. Siebe van Mensfoort, CEO of Simbeyond

About State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices

The establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD) at South China University of Technology (SCUT) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China in 2011 and it officially operated in 2013. In the same year, although still at its infancy stage, SKLLMD participated in the State Key Laboratory Assessment and was rated as one of the five “Excellent” laboratories among the twenty-two materials-oriented state key laboratories. The mission of SKLLMD is a Chinese national lab for research, education, innovation and technology development in optoelectronic materials and devices, and is committed to provide important contributions to the growing demand of the economic development of China. SKLLMD’s four key research areas include 1) organic light emitting devices for display and lighting, 2) organic photovoltaic materials and devices, 3) advanced glass materials for optical fibers and lasers, 4) bio-optoelectronic materials for imaging diagnosis and treatment. To support the interdisciplinary optoelectronic research in SKLLMD, it has established six experimental platforms equipped with state-of-the-art facilities with a total cost over 200M RMB. These platforms are dedicated to the areas including chemical synthesis, device fabrication and integration, ultrafast laser spectroscopy study, materials and devices characterization, biological detection, and theoretical calculation and simulation.

About South China University of technology

Located in Guangzhou, South China University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. The campus is divided into Wushan Campus, University City Campus and Guangzhou International Campus. It is the first “National Civilized Campus” acquisition unit. The school has a long history and can be traced back to the first provincial industrial school in Guangdong Province established in 1918. It was formally established in 1952 as a national college of higher education. It became one of the four major universities in China; in 1960, it became a national key university; In 1981, it was approved by the State Council as the first batch of doctoral and master’s degree-granting units; in 1993; Building a list of Class A colleges and universities, ranked 20-300 in the “World University Academic Rankings” in 2018.
